Your MRI is not performed at our Bamber Bridge clinic. We arrange your scan, complete your GP safety review and follow up your results. The scan itself takes place at a CQC-registered partner imaging centre. We'll confirm the centre's address when you book.
How it works
How scans work
Every scan follows the same GP-led pathway. You book online and pay a £25 booking fee, which is deducted from the scan price. A GMC-registered GP calls you before the scan to check it is the right test and that it is safe for you. We refer you to a partner imaging centre near you, a consultant radiologist reports the images, and one of our GPs goes through the results with you. Your report is sent to you as a password-protected PDF. If anything urgent is found, we contact you and your NHS practice directly.
The service covers England only.
Scans that need a contrast injection, and prostate MRI, are not done at our Preston or Newton-le-Willows centres. We'll book you at Liverpool or Salford (contrast) or an England partner centre (prostate MRI) and tell you before you pay.

MRI prices
A £25 booking fee applies to every scan and is deducted from the total price. Patients with these postcodes pay North West prices and are scanned at Preston (Fulwood) or Newton-le-Willows: CA, LA, FY, PR, BB, BL, OL, M, SK, WN, WA, L, CH, CW. Everyone else in England pays England prices and is scanned through our national partner network. Where there is only one price, it applies everywhere. The service covers England only.

Breast and cardiac MRI always include contrast. The contrast add-on is added by the GP where clinically needed and is not bookable on its own. Contrast scans are not done at Preston or Newton-le-Willows, so a North West patient needing contrast is scanned at Liverpool or Salford. North West Brain & Body Gold and Platinum are available at Preston and Newton-le-Willows only.

Where your scan takes place
For patients in the North West, MRI is performed by Pro-Scan Imaging at its CQC-registered centres in Preston (Fulwood) and Newton-le-Willows (not at our Bamber Bridge clinic). Elsewhere in England, scans are performed by our national imaging partner. We'll confirm the centre's address when you book.
Timing: Scan referrals are not normally completed on the same day: after your GP pre-test call we send your referral to the partner imaging centre, which then contacts you or confirms your appointment — we'll give you an expected timescale when you book.

Why £425?
You'll find cheaper scans advertised (around £249), and hospitals often charge £600 or more. Our £425 isn't just a scan in a tube — it's the scan plus a full consultant radiologist report, a GP pre-test review, and someone to put the results in context and arrange what happens next. That's where the value is.

Comfortable, modern imaging
Our North West partner, Pro-Scan Imaging, scans on a wide-bore Siemens MAGNETOM (1.5T and 3T) with a Quiet Suite for a calmer, quieter experience, with room for patients who are claustrophobic or larger-framed. There's no radiation. Scans are reported by consultant radiologists.

Most findings are minor. If anything needs a closer look we contact you promptly — at no extra charge — explain what it means, arrange any onward investigation, and can liaise with your NHS GP.

Common questions
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can book directly — our GP completes a 10-minute pre-test review and safety screen before every scan.
How quickly will I get my results?
Your scan is reported by a consultant radiologist, typically within 3–5 working days. Urgent reporting can be arranged.
Is there any radiation?
No. MRI uses a strong magnet and radio waves — there is no ionising radiation, which is one reason it's so useful for soft tissue, joints, brain and spine.
I'm claustrophobic or larger-framed — can you help?
Yes. Our partner's wide-bore scanner and Quiet Suite are designed for comfort, with more room and less noise. Tell us in advance and we'll plan your visit around you.
Is the scan done at your Bamber Bridge clinic?
No. We arrange your MRI and review the results, but the scan is performed at a CQC-registered partner imaging centre, Pro-Scan Imaging in Preston or Newton-le-Willows for North West patients, or our national partner elsewhere in the UK. In our Bamber Bridge clinic we carry out GP consultations and examinations, all blood tests, ECG and MSK ultrasound. No other scans are performed on site.
Can I have my scan referral done on the same day?
Not normally. We complete your GP pre-test call and safety screen first, then send the referral to the partner imaging centre, which arranges your appointment — we'll give you an expected timescale when you book. If your need is clinically urgent, call us on 01772 282189 and we'll do our best to prioritise it. If you have severe or sudden symptoms, call 999 or go to A&E.
Can I use private medical insurance?
Many patients self-pay, but we can provide an itemised invoice in your insurer's preferred format — please check your policy first.
