Cervical screening & HPV

Cervical cytology & HPV testing

HPV testing is now the recommended first-line cervical screen. Choose HPV, a traditional smear, or the most thorough co-test — in clinic or self-collected at home.

HPV DNA screenHigh-risk HPV DNA test; reflex cytology on the same sample if positive (+£154.80)£89.10
HPV self-collect (home)At-home HPV swab; a positive result means attending in clinic for a ThinPrep£89.10
Cervical cytology (smear)Liquid-based (ThinPrep) smear checking cervical cells for pre-cancerous changes£154.80
HPV extended subtypingIndividual low- & high-risk HPV subtypes; reflex cytology if positive (+£154.80)£189
Cervical cytology + HPV (co-test) Most thoroughCombined HPV DNA screen + cytology together£240.30

How reflex testing works

If an HPV screen comes back positive, the lab automatically runs cytology on the same ThinPrep vial — no second sample needed — and the £154.80 cytology fee applies. In-clinic cytology, HPV and co-tests include a £25 GP pre-test call and £25 sample-taking, charged once per visit. The self-collect HPV kit is completed at home with no sample-taking fee.

HPV DNA screen covers high-risk types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. Extended subtyping adds low-risk types (incl. 6 & 11) and further high-risk types.

Joined-up women's care

Because we're a full GP and diagnostics clinic, your screening connects to everything else — hormones, bloods, imaging and our vaginal microbiome and prenatal (NIPT) services — with a GP to tie the results together.

Screening is not diagnostic. A positive result needs clinical follow-up, and visible blood or symptoms should always be discussed with a GP. Cervical screening is recommended per national guidance by age — your GP will advise the right interval for you.

FAQs

Common questions

Is HPV testing better than a smear?
HPV testing is now the recommended first-line cervical screen. If an HPV screen is positive, the laboratory automatically runs cytology (a smear) on the same ThinPrep sample — no second sample is needed — and the £154.80 cytology fee then applies.
Can I do the HPV test at home?
Yes. Our HPV self-collect kit (£89.10) is completed at home with no sample-taking fee. If the result is positive, you attend the clinic for a ThinPrep cytology sample.
How often should I be screened?
Cervical screening is recommended by age under national guidance. Your GP will advise the right interval for you. Visible blood or symptoms should always be discussed with a GP rather than waiting for a screen.
Do the packages include a GP consultation?
Yes. Every package is GP-reviewed and priced at a saving versus buying the tests separately. In-clinic cytology, HPV and co-tests include a £25 GP pre-test call and £25 sample-taking, charged once per visit.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly. With your consent, we'll also share a written outcome with your own NHS GP.
