One of the most common questions we hear is whether you need a GP referral before seeing a physiotherapist privately. You don't — you can book directly. But there's a more useful question underneath it: what can your physiotherapist actually do once you're there?
Why an advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) matters
A standard physiotherapist assesses and treats. An advanced clinical practitioner can do considerably more — without sending you back to a GP first:
- Prescribe medication
- Request imaging (like an MRI) directly
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic injections
- Refer you on to consultants
That means fewer appointments, less waiting, and a faster route from "what's wrong?" to "here's the plan."
What your first appointment includes
Up to 45 minutes with the ACP, covering:
- A full history and hands-on examination
- MSK ultrasound on the day, if it's needed — real-time scanning of tendons, ligaments and joints while you move
- A plain-English diagnosis and a take-away plan
- Treatment where appropriate, and onward arrangements — all without a separate GP visit
What about injections?
Ultrasound-guided injections are more accurate than landmark-guided ones, and options include corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid and PRP. They're always discussed with you first, and where suitable can often be done the same day.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem. Simple issues often settle in 2–4 sessions; more complex cases may need 6–12. We're upfront about this at your first visit, and there are no packages or blocks to buy — you only pay for what you need.
Pricing
Initial assessment and treatment from £80, follow-ups from £60, and ultrasound-guided injections (including consultation and follow-up) from £200. We can provide receipts suitable for insurance claims.
